Bike

Over-the-road bicyclists are thrilled to learn that Sunriver is at the center of hundreds of miles of scarcely travelled highways and byways. The Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, arguably one of the most beautiful drives in the Pacific Northwest begins at Sunriver. The byway takes riders through the breathtaking Cascade Mountains, loops around Mt. Bachelor and passes through several mountain lakes as it circles back to Sunriver.

True to its name, the byway makes a loop around Mt. Bachelor and passes several mountain lakes along the way, each with its own breathtaking view of the Cascade Mountains.

The peaks of Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top and the Three Sisters will seem close enough to touch as you take a relaxing stroll around the perimeter of Todd Lake or any of the other crystal-clear, pristine alpine lakes that dot the unforgettable landscape.

Many of these lakes are accessible by car only in the summer months, but there’s still fun to be had at the Sno-Parks along the sides of the road.

Sunriver is Oregon’s original bike friendly vacation spot. The Sunriver Owners Association (SROA) contains over 50 miles of family friendly dedicated paved bike and pedestrian trails open that are open to the public. The pathways curve around golf courses, under roads, through pine forests and through Sunriver’s Great Meadow. The new 5.5-mile paved pathway connecting Sunriver with Lava Lands Visitor Center offers bikers an opportunity to enjoy a leisurely ride to the Deschutes River and Benham Falls.

Pathway maps, as well pathway rules, are available at local bike shops, kiosks along pathway and roads, or stop by the Chamber’s Visitor Center. Riders are encouraged and advised to wear bike helmets, however children under the age of 14 are required by law to wear them.

Many rental homes come equipped with bikes, but if they are not included and you did not bring your own, there are many bike rental shops where you can rent every conceivable kind of bicycle and accessory including toddler trailers, tandem and recumbent bikes.  Or arrange for one of several experienced outfitters or guides who will arrange for all your needs.

Printable local, intermediate and regional maps are available at the top of this web site.

Off-road enthusiasts could not find better terrain or more miles of public forest trails anywhere in the world. In the summer months, Mt Bachelor’s downhill and enduro trails offer an unparalleled biking experience. The terrain is suitable for beginner, intermediate and experienced riders with features such as jumps, hits, wood and dirt ramps, banks, fun boxes, jibs, logs and other natural features.
