The High Desert Museum has been inspiring families since 1982 and is consistently rated as the top Central Oregon attraction by Trip Advisor. With 135 acres and more than 100,000 square feet of exhibit space in the Museum, it’s a “must see” for anyone travelling through – or living in – the region. Get a close-up view of native wildlife, such as river otters, porcupines and raptors. Talk with historic characters who share tales of early Oregon homesteaders. Visit an authentic ranch and sawmill from 1904.
Experience a close encounter with owls, falcons, hawks and even a vulture. Learn about Native American culture and history, and delight your children with one of many fun, hands-on programs that bring history and science to life.
The High Desert Museum is located just five minutes south of Bend, Oregon on Hwy 97, and includes a museum store and café. Open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and Fourth of July.

Catch a ride from our Bend store to catch class II and III rapids on the McKenzie River. Stand up Paddleboarding:
If you are not feeling the whitewater thrills, try one of our guided stand up paddleboard tours! Explore a beautiful and peaceful stretch of the Deschutes River between Dillon and Benham Falls while gaining the unique perspective of a SUP board. Our SUP Tour includes transportation from our Bend Headquarters, high-quality equipment, and expert guidance. You will be able to truly appreciate the beauty of the crystal-clear Upper Deschutes and its incredibly diverse environment from the vantage of a paddleboard.

Bill Healy founded Mt. Bachelor Ski Area December 19, 1958 with a rope tow and a single lift. Mt. Bachelor has since grown to be one of the largest ski resorts in the United States. The resort boasts a wide variety of terrain, allowing guests to ski or ride 360 degrees off the summit, hike the adjoining cinder cone for a well-earned run down, or ski the trees off the western bowls to find that great cache of powder.
Visit Mt. Bachelor in the winter for a multitude of snow sports and activities. Snow tubing, snow shoeing, dog sledding, downhill and Nordic skiing, and snowboarding. Visit Mt. Bachelor in the summer to go mountain biking, hiking, or enjoy a meal. Click here to learn more.
Mt. Bachelor offers a variety of dining options including Eagan’s Outpost, a mobile kitchen. Grab a cup of coffee the Subie Shack java hut, visit one of three bars and cafes in the West Village, or stop by the Sunrise Grill and the Sun Bar at Sunrise Lodge. Alternatively, hit the Pine Martin Lodge for Scapolo’s Bistro, Sparks Café, and Pinnacles Espresso. Hours and offerings vary, so please visit our website for updates!
