The Village at Sunriver

Happen

A husband’s birthday wish wasn’t for himself.

Rather, it was for his wife to use her creativity to open a boutique.

And that’s the start of the story of Happen, a home and gift boutique in The Village at Sunriver.

Sierra Gealon and her mother, Gretchen Weaver, are the co-owners of Happen.

They invite community members to attend the boutique’s grand opening 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13. There will be a ribbon cutting at 5:15 p.m. along with a chance to win a gift card to the store. There will be a discount on items for local community members.

Back to how Happen happened.

“My children and I took my husband to breakfast for his birthday, and he made a wish for me to start a business,” Sierra, 32, said. “We went for a walk in The Village and saw the store front near Hot Lava Bakery was available. He said to me, let’s make this happen.”

A builder of custom homes, Ikaika Gealon helped her design and build the store’s interior.

“My mom and I always wanted to do something together,” Sierra said. “My sister makes jewelry that we sell at the store and my mom makes custom handbags.”

Warm and cozy, the store has something for everyone and every occasion. There are candles to cards, infant clothes and children’s toys, glassware to vases and linens to baskets.

“Every item has a story because my mom and I carefully consider what we want to sell, making an effort to sell locally made items along with items made by women or women-owned businesses,” Sierra said. “We are planning on having holiday items in November.”

They also plan to have workshops such as how to make a wreath, how to wrap gifts, holiday decorating, flower arranging and ideas for table settings.

“My mom and I always dreamed of opening a boutique together,” Sierra said. “We want to be a part of the Sunriver community where locals can find unique, meaningful and heirloom gifts or for their own homes.”

Happen is located in The Village at Sunriver, Suite 120. Call 541-815-4425, email Gealon.sierra@gmail.com or visit http://www.happenhome.com.

Db Appraisals in the

Sunriver Business Park

After retiring as the owner of The Wooden Jewel, Denise Bryant has launched a new career as a “jewelry detective.”

Her new business is Db Appraisals where she assists her clients in investigating their jewelry to provide a certified appraisal.

“The primary reason for a certified appraisal is for insurance and legal purposes,” Denise shared. “A certified appraisal is a higher standard to evaluate jewelry pieces, and it is held up in a court of law. Insurance companies would prefer to have a certified appraisal as well so they know it will hold up in a court of law.”

A member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraiser, Denise has earned several certificates to qualify to provide certified appraisals.

“I enjoy the science side of gems and jewelry,” she said. “I love looking for clues including the jeweler’s stamp and the cut and quality of the gems. An antique piece of jewelry may take time to investigate when and where it was crafted.”

Denise said a certified appraisal is more than weighing the metal such as gold or looking at the quality of the gems.

“There are high standards that go into evaluating a piece including testing the stones and the metal,” she said. “I recently evaluated a ring where the gold band was marked 18K and it was only 14K. I also make sure the gems are authentic and not man made.”

An appraisal for one piece of jewelry is $165 and each additional piece of jewelry is $130. It takes one to two weeks to have a piece evaluated. If you are interested in learning more or making an appointment, please contact Denise at 541-390-0830 or Denisebryant3433@gmail.com to arrange a time to visit her in her Sunriver office.

Cari Welch is the owner and licensed professional counselor at A Turning Point Counseling in the Sunriver Business Park.

Welch shared A Turning Point Counseling is a safe and confidential space providing mental and emotional health care services to individuals, couples and families with a desire to bring help and healing to those who are hurting in south Deschutes County.

“I chose the name A Turning Point Counseling because when I was seeing a counselor it was the catalyst that helped me reach a turning point in my life that brought me healing and freedom,” she shared. “I describe myself as having a sensitive heart and compassionate spirit. I am here to help people reach their own paths to healing.”

Welch loves living in beautiful Central Oregon with adventure waiting right outside her door.

Using hiking as an analogy for her work, she said hikers often discover rock cairns; piles of stones made for marking the path ahead. Too often, she said, people think they don’t need to seek assistance which leads to being stuck in a rut or repetitively running into the same wall.

“A Turning Point Counseling helps keep people moving in the right direction,” Welch shared. “Counseling can be that cairn for each of us; a turning point in our journey to greater healing and health that gets us moving in the way we want to go.”

Welch’s experience and education enables her to offer effective and individualized outpatient mental health care.

“Part of my work is teaching people to train themselves to listen to their gut feelings about a situation, then trusting that gut feeling, understanding we often have the answers but ignore them,” she said.

Her goal is to provide a safe, confidential space where clients will find support, healing and growth by challenging harmful beliefs, bringing awareness of their inner strengths and charting a path forward into health and healing.

“My goal is to be there for you at every step of your journey; to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life,” she said.

Sunriver residents Amanda and Michael Sumpter invite locals and tourists to visit Whiskey River Bar in the Sunriver Business Park to watch a sporting event, play pool, throw darts, enjoy a meal, listen to music or try a signature drink.

“We wanted to create a place that would be a nice addition to the Sunriver area and that combines our many years of experience,” Amanda Sumpter said.

Guests can enjoy signature seasonal cocktails created by bartender and food prepared by their two chefs while sitting on the outdoor patio or inside the rustic themed bar.

The Sumpters are planning to offer breakfast this fall for guests watching football games, and they are planning to have live music. Whiskey River Bar is for guests 21 years and older.

“We noticed there wasn’t a place for adults to gather after 9 p.m. so we decided to fix that by opening Whiskey River Bar,” Amanda Sumpter said.

The bar is open 3 to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 3 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

“We created Whiskey River Bar to be a timeless place where everyone feels welcome,” Amanda Sumpter said.

Whiskey River Bar is located in the Sunriver Business Park at 56880 Venture Lane. Call 541-508-7207, email whiskeyriveroregon@gmail.com or visit http://www.whiskeyriveroregon.com.

Nobility is Nobleness of mind, character, body, and spirit. Our goal is to create a studio that helps individuals conquer their goals though personal training.

We believe there is a  difference between exercise and training. Exercise is movement done for the effect you get out of it today. Training is when you exercise in specific ways to achieve a long term goal with each workout intended to create progression and results. We enjoy helping others take the necessary steps toward achieving their goals. We know that with education, motivation, and the accountability we can provide the results you have been looking for.
