Biking in Sunriver

Whether your choice of pedal power is a fat bike, road bike, mountain bike or Sunday cruiser, there is a trail, road or pathway for you to explore in or near Sunriver.

Sunriver is Oregon’s pioneering bike friendly vacation spot. The Sunriver Owners Association (SROA) maintains more than 34 miles of family-friendly paved bike and pedestrian trails, meandering past the Deschutes River, golf courses, meadows, forests and more. Sunriver guests and residents can safely travel to various locations in Sunriver such as The Village, SHARC or Fort Rock Park or just enjoy the scenery along the bike path. The new 5.5-mile paved pathway connecting Sunriver with Lava Lands Visitor Center offers bikers an opportunity to enjoy a leisurely ride to the Deschutes River and Benham Falls.  Pathway maps, as well pathway rules, are available at local bike shops, kiosks along pathway and roads, or stop by the Chamber’s Visitor Center.

When riding on Sunriver’s pathways remember to:

  1. Follow the pathway rules including riding single file and telling walkers/runners that you are passing.
  2. It’s advised everyone wear a helmet, however children under the age of 14 are required by law to wear them.

Mountain Biking

Off-road enthusiasts will find incredible terrain for all levels, miles of public forest trails and a supportive mountain biking community. In the summer, Mt. Bachelor’s downhill and endurance trails offer an unparalleled biking experience. The terrain is suitable for beginner, intermediate and experienced riders with features such as jumps, hits, wood and dirt ramps, banks, fun boxes, jibs, logs and other natural features.

In Sunriver, mountain bikers can travel the paved paths to the Cardinal Landing Bridge and cross to other side to discover miles of mountain biking trails.

Road Biking

Over-the-road bicyclists know Sunriver is at the center of hundreds of miles of scarcely travelled highways and byways. The Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, arguably one of the most beautiful drives in the Pacific Northwest begins at Sunriver. The byway takes riders through the breathtaking Cascade Mountains, loops around Mt. Bachelor and passes through several mountain lakes as it circles back to Sunriver. The peaks of Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top and the Three Sisters will seem close enough to touch as you take a relaxing stroll around the perimeter of Todd Lake or any of the other crystal-clear, pristine alpine lakes that dot the unforgettable landscape.

The recreation shops in Sunriver have plenty of information on where to go as well as the equipment you need for any bike ride.
