Central Oregon’s first destination resort, Sunriver is a place where memories are made and traditions begin. The land was first used by the Army Corps of Engineers to perform World War II training exercises at what was Camp Abbot in the 1940s.

In 1968, John and Betty Gray, Don and Mary McCallum and Lee Evans envisioned, founded and built Sunriver Resort. Their goal was to create a place where nature and human beings could live and play in harmony. They thought it might take 20 years to build a destination resort. “Instead, people flocked to Sunriver knowing it was a special place – a state of mind as well as a destination,” according to the book, “Sunriver – A Legacy” by John Frohnmayer.

More than 50 years later, Sunriver River is still a place where children who first visited in the 1970s return with their children and their grandchildren. It’s a place where traditions begin and are carried on from generation to generation.

What makes Sunriver an incredible place to stay is there are accommodations fit for what you want to do. There are cozy one-bedroom cabins for outdoor enthusiasts who just need a place to sleep. Want a romantic getaway? Book a few nights at Sunriver Resort. Need a house large enough for your three grown kids, their spouses and your five grandchildren, there’s a house for that too.

Whether you stay at Sunriver Resort or book a rental through one of the Chamber’s members, you will receive first-class hospitality. In Sunriver, it’s not something we just say, it’s truly something we do. You will find people eager to make sure you enjoy your stay.

Staying in one of the rental homes or condos provides you with the opportunity to prepare your own meals, have a place to do laundry and have plenty of room. Some rentals have hot tubs and some welcome pets. Whatever your budget and your needs there is a rental for you.

And while you are here, for a few days or a few weeks, we want you to feel at home. Please contact the Chamber if you need information or referrals. Our hope is every guest makes plans to visit Sunriver again and again.
