The High Desert Museum was awarded a grant of $238,840 from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The grant will help the High Desert Museum create a new learning hub, designed to inspire and engage K-12 students, teachers, families and community groups.

The High Desert Museum appreciates the support from Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley for championing the incredible work being done by Oregon’s museums, and it would like to thank the IMLS for its continued commitment to educational and cultural excellence.

“The Central Oregon community is growing, and the High Desert Museum has always been in lockstep with our community. So, these new spaces are going to help us be expanding and providing the resources for a welcoming environment for all of the learning that needs to happen at the High Desert Museum,” executive director Dana Whitelaw said.

The museum is still in the design phase of this new learning hub. Construction remains a few years away. The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry and the Portland Art Museum also received federal funding.
